Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the Ethiopian Journalist Persons with Disabilities Association (EJPDA)?
The EJPDA is a professional association of journalists with disabilities and other media professionals who focus on disability-related issues in Ethiopia. It works to promote inclusion, accessibility, and fair representation of persons with disabilities across all media platforms.
EJPDA was officially registered with the Federal Civil Society Organizations Authority on January 6, 2014, under Proclamation No. 1113/2011. The association launched its official operations on September 11, 2015, in Adama City.
The association was formed to address the lack of disability-focused coverage in Ethiopian media. It brings together journalists—both with and without disabilities—who are motivated to raise awareness, influence public attitudes, and ensure disability issues receive proper attention through professional and inclusive journalism.

Membership is open to:

  • Journalists with disabilities working in any media outlet (print, broadcast, or digital).

  • Non-disabled journalists who are passionate about disability inclusion.

  • Media professionals, researchers, and advocates working on disability awareness and communication.

EJPDA aims to:

  • Raise awareness of disability issues in social, economic, and political contexts.

  • Empower journalists with disabilities to compete equally in the media industry.

  • Encourage inclusive media practices and ensure disability-related topics are covered accurately and responsibly.

  • Support capacity building, training, and awareness programs for journalists and media institutions.

Mission:
To promote the use of media as a tool for awareness, accessibility, and inclusion—ensuring that people with disabilities are represented and heard.

Vision:
To see people with disabilities become active participants and play a crucial role in the social, economic, and political life of Ethiopia through the power of media.
